Product Use and Care

Spoonful of Comfort packages are all about taking care of the person who receives them. Here are a few tips in return about taking care of what comes inside the box.

Freshness Guarantee

Everything from our kitchens is packed to withstand 5 days in transit. Our soups are “blast frozen” to lock in freshness and prepare for their journey. We wrap each container in a proprietary insulated liner with gel ice packs to keep it food safe for up to 5 days.

When There’s a Shipping Delay

When severe weather events occur, we continue to ship our packages while communicating daily with UPS. Together, we determine what shipping options are feasible (for example, we won’t offer overnight shipping when weather will prevent that delivery).

Please know that Mother Nature can still surprise us. Even if your shipping destination is not impacted by the weather, other hubs and transit routes may affect the overall network. Our 5-day Freshness Guarantee was created for unanticipated slow-downs.

You will get a shipping number to track your package’s arrival (and we’re watching it, too!). In the unlikely event that it does not arrive within our freshness window, please contact Customer Support for a refund or replacement order.

Soup Packages

Spoonful of Comfort Soups

  • Upon receipt, remove the soup from the silver mylar pouch. Freeze, refrigerate, or prepare immediately.
  • If your soup is frozen, let it thaw in the refrigerator for 1-2 days, or immerse the container in cool water for 30-40 minutes. If your soup comes in a 32-ounce plastic tub, you may also defrost the soup in the microwave. Start by microwaving for 2-3 minutes on defrost setting, then in 30-second increments until fully thawed. These methods are considered safe by the USDA.
  • If you have trouble loosening a jar lid, run the top of the jar under warm water for up 5 minutes. If you still have trouble, please call us 877-404-7678.
  • To heat soup, gently pour desired amount of soup into a saucepan (1-2 cups per serving). Warm on medium heat until heated through, stirring (and maybe tasting!) occasionally.
  • To microwave, pour desired amount of soup into a microwave-safe bowl. Microwave on high, loosely covered, for 1-2 minutes. Stir and carefully test temperature. If needed, microwave in 30-second increments until fully heated through.
  • The USDA recommends heating soup to 165 degrees for safe consumption.
  • Refrigerate any leftovers. If you want to save some of your soup for later, you can safely refreeze a portion of it. The USDA recommends that thawed food be refrozen within 3-4 days.

Spoonful of Comfort Rolls and Cookies

  • Rolls and/or cookies are ready to eat!
  • If you wish, remove from packaging and heat in 350° oven until warmed (about 5 mins).
  • A little butter to top the rolls never hurts!
